CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

This CERC Fellowship provides an opportunity to join CSIRO’s Agriculture and Food business unit based at Myall Vale, Narrabri, in regional New South Wales. The role of the CERC Fellow will be to undertake research to improve the understanding of the plant-pathogen interaction with verticillium wilt resistance, as well as improve the methodologies used to phenotype and breed varieties for improved resistance.

Your duties will include:

· Develop new concepts and methodologies, in both field and glasshouse environments, to improve the understanding of verticillium wilt in relation to host plant resistance.

· Generate new cotton breeding material with resistance to verticillium wilt.

· Design, manage and statically analyse experiments carried out in field, glasshouse, and laboratory environments and publish findings in peer reviewed journals.

Location: Myall Vale, Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia

Salary: AU$92k - AU$101k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

· A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as plant breeding or host plant resistance interactions to diseases. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.

· A current Australian Drivers Licence or the ability to obtain one.

· Demonstrated experience in plant and/or disease interactions.

· Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting field and greenhouse experiments.

· Demonstrated ability in data handling and statistical analysis.
