Position description
Professor Monica Daley at University of California, Irvine, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Neuromechanics lab. The postdoc will engage in research on neuromuscular control of legged locomotion and will contribute to running of lab operations and mentoring undergraduate research students.
In the UCI Neuromechanics lab, we work at the interface of biomechanics and neuroscience to study how the body and mind work together to coordinate movement. We focus on revealing the mechanisms of stable locomotion in animals, including humans. We use a range of experimental, analytical and computational approaches to answer questions about how mechanics and sensorimotor control are integrated for stable movement. Further information about the lab can be found at https: // neuromechanics.bio.uci.edu/
Qualifications: Suitable applicants will have 1) Expertise in neuromuscular physiology, musculoskeletal biomechanics, sensorimotor control and/or modeling and simulation of legged locomotion. 2) A PhD in a relevant field by the start date. 3) Strong technical knowledge of biomechanics and statistics and experience coding in Matlab, Python or another suitable coding language, 4) Ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative team environment. 5) Good organizational skills, attention to detail and time management to ensure smooth running of research activities. 6) A keen interest in effective science communication and community engagement.
The appointment is for two years at 100% time, with a comprehensive benefits package. Continuation beyond the initial contract will be based on performance and availability of funding. The salary is based on UCI's salary scales and dependent on qualifications and experience.
Applicants should submit: 1) Cover letter describing your qualifications, research interests and career goals, 2) A current curriculum vitae, 3) Contact information (including names, email addresses, and telephone numbers) for three References who can provide letters upon request. References will be contacted before any offer is made.
