Position Title Postdoctoral Fellow - Resilience Research Centre

The Resilience Research Centre (RRC), based at Dalhousie University, under the direction of Dr. Michael Ungar, Canada Research Chair in Child, Family and Community Resilience, is looking for dynamic individuals with an interest in developing further expertise in research and evaluation related to resilience/protective processes. The focus of the RRC's work is with children and youth living in challenging contexts across culturally diverse settings around the world. For this position, experience with studying child, youth, family and/or community resilience and/or experience analysing social policy related to youth/family resilience is preferred though related types of research experience will also be considered.

This position is ideal for postdocs and early career scholars seeking to gain experience doing original research, publishing, developing funding applications, managing research projects and mobilizing knowledge. The holder of this postdoctoral fellowship will be asked to assist with a study of resilience, policy, social development, and potentially other studies with youth from diverse backgrounds, both in Canada and internationally. At a minimum, applicants should be familiar with designing research methods related to psychological and social processes and analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data and/or conducting policy reviews related to youth and family resilience/wellbeing. Proficiency in English is required. Applicants can be from any discipline, though familiarity with psychological, political, and social factors affecting children, youth and families and prior interest in the study of resilience or related concepts is preferred.

The RRC is an international group of scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from more than 20 countries who together collaborate on research and knowledge mobilization projects. Over the last 20 years, the Centre has received over $15M in research funding for mixed methods studies from national funders and helped its overseas partners secure another $8M from domestic and international granting agencies. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to build a strong network of contacts and increase their publications.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Responsibilities:

· Conduct research and/or policy reviews with youth and families. Collaborate with our national and international partners on these same tasks.

· Participate in the analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data and dissemination of results in traditional academic forums (conferences, journal articles, books) and through less traditional, community-based initiatives.

· Manage community and stakeholder engagement and site coordination.

· Communicate to project team developments/progress and results of research activities ensuring that relevant information and issues in the implementation of project/research activities are captured in as comprehensive and timely manner as possible.

· Develop grant proposals and implement/manage research projects

· Write and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and other recognized media that highlight findings from research and project activities ensuring consistency with the highest standards of academic publication and showcasing scientific leadership .

· Assist with training and supervision of Research Assistants.

· Advise on knowledge mobilization strategies, and assist with and lead knowledge mobilization initiative.

Status: Full-time, Postdocs are expected to devote at least 80% of their time to the projects of the RRC while continuing to pursue their own program of research which is expected to extend or build upon the work of the RRC.

Qualifications:

· Demonstrated proficiency with qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis.

· Understanding of risk and resilience issues and demonstrated sensitivity to work with children and youth.

· The ideal candidate will have completed a Doctoral program or be nearing completion.

· Candidates should have a proven track record of research and publication.

· Experience developing successful grant applications.

· Prior experience managing staff or leading a team.

· Familiarity with working cross-culturally (Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cultures and with diverse stakeholders).
