Postdoctoral Fellow In Pediatric Endocrinology And Diabetes

The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research.

The Department of pediatrics has a variety of specialties included such as diabetes, endocrinology, oncology, cardiology, neurology, neonatology, nephrology, immunology. The Gothenburg Pediatric Growth Research Centre (GPGRC) is a part of the Department of pediatrics. Here we have research focused on endocrinology, growth, diabetes and obesity. In the research center clinics and research are integrated for an optimal interaction and easy to access seminar, region meetings as well as workshops within the facilities. We have also a modern ultrasensitive laboratory for analyses of hormones within pediatric levels and biobanking.

Pediatric endocrinology and diabetes

Subject area description

Research in the field of rare epigenetic disorders with an implication on impaired growth, under- and overnutrition with implications for metabolic outcome.

Duties

The main task is to conduct research independently and lead a team gathering genetic and epigenetic data as well as phenotypic data for analyses of metabolic outcome for the diagnose PWS, SRS and BWS. The work includes participation in all parts of the research process, but especially grant applications, leading the statistical analyses, scientific writing, and supervision of doctoral and medical students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.

In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Assessment criteria

To qualify as a postdoctoral fellow the applicant should hold a PhD within the field of pediatric endocrinology or pediatric diabetes with specific knowledge on growth disorders and growth hormone treatment. Experience of work within endocrine networks in Europe is a requirement. Previous work in the field of epigenetic disorders or manuscripts/publications on the phenotype or metabolic outcome in any of the disorders PWS, SRS or BWS is also a strong asset. Previous experience of supervision students is an advantage.

Following the qualitative overall assessment of skills and proficiency, applicants will be selected who are expected to have the best prerequisites for implementing and developing current tasks as well as contributing to a positive development of the scientific group.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, department of pediatrics. Starting date; On agreement.
