MRC Postdoctoral Fellow (Fixed Term)
MRC Postdoctoral Fellow (Fixed Term)
The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a postdoctoral scientist to join Professor Edmund Kunji's research group in the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit in Cambridge.
The postholder will work within a programme focussed on Mitochondrial Transport Processes. Mitochondrial transport proteins are crucial for the function of the mitochondrion and cause of a wide range of metabolic, developmental and neuromuscular mitochondrial diseases. Basic molecular knowledge about the structure and mechanism of transport proteins is required to provide a foundation for biomedical function-dysfunction studies in mitochondrial and cellular systems of greater complexity to understand their role in health and disease.
The goal of the project is to understand the molecular mechanism of mitochondrial transport protein by using electron cryo-microscopy (cryoEM). The post-holder will participate in every stage of the process, from isolation of mitochondria, expression and purification of transport proteins, cryoEM grid preparation, data acquisition and processing and structure model building and interpretation. Candidates will have (or about to be awarded) a PhD in Biological or Physical Natural Sciences, and a track record of related research achievements in the area of Structural Biology and/or Biophysics.
This is a fixed term training programme post for 3 years from date of appointment (up to 31 March 2027, or whichever falls sooner).
The MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit is a world-renowned centre for research in respiratory enzymes. Additional information can be found at www. mrc- mbu.cam.ac.uk.
Applicants should include a CV and covering letter with their application, along with contact information for three professional referees who can be contacted prior to interview.
