Job Description
Huntington Medical Research Institutes is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through patient-focused scientific research. Our brand-new state of the art laboratory anchors the biomedical corridor on South Fair Oaks in Pasadena. Our scientists' research focuses on the connection between the brain and heart, developing diagnostic tools to help treat common diseases of these vital organs that affect every family.
A postdoctoral position is available in the Neurosciences Research Program under Dr. Xianghong Arakaki, Assistant Professor at Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI), Pasadena, California, to study the role of Heart-brain connections in migraine and cognitive challenge projects, including the interests of neurophysiology, as well as related immunohistochemistry, biochemical measurements of neurotransmitters for the underlying mechanisms for both migraine and risk of cognitive decline in cognitively healthy individuals.
We welcome applications from highly motivated and independent-minded individuals. The initial appointment will be for one-two years the possibility of extension depending on grant funding. Salary will be commensurate with postdoctoral scholar qualifications, laboratory experience, and institutional guidelines.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• PhD or MD degree, with expertise and/or experience in neuroscience, and with a strong interest in heart-brain connection and mechanisms underlying migraine and risk of cognitive decline in cognitively healthy individuals.
• Candidates with a good track record of publications, with a strong background in Neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular and/or cell biology.
• Expertise including HPLC or LC-MS for neurotransmitter measurements is a prerequisite.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and an aptitude for mentoring students
• Good judgment and decision-making capability
• Observes laboratory safety and security procedures
• Uses laboratory equipment and materials properly
• Must be a reliable and conscientious self-starter, with excellent attention to detail and ability
to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, building respect, consensus, and trust across reporting lines
