The Twin Digital Lab at Wright State University, led by Dr. Hamed Attariani, invites applications for postdoctoral positions in the computational optics. This research is currently being sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH).
There is one position that is currently open for postdoctoral researchers interested in conducting research in computational optics. Specifically, we are looking for self-motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a strong research background in the following areas:
- Computational Optics with multi-physics software such as COMSOL
- Data collection and post-processing of MEMS based optical sensors
- Basic knowledge on ML and Data curation
Minimum Qualifications
Postdoctoral researchers should have a Ph.D. in STEM by the start date.
The candidates should demonstrate readiness to perform computational studies on interaction between light and matter.
The candidates should have basic knowledge on working principle of optical sensors.
The candidate should be familiar computational optics, and Finite Element Analysis.
Postdoctoral researchers should demonstrate proficiency in creating high- level language programs, i.e., Python.
Preferred Qualifications
Good communication skills, exhibit the ability to perform multiple tasks, and work cooperatively in a team environment.
Have documented the ability or potential to contribute to computational optics field, as evidenced by a history of publications or contributions on specific projects, products, tools, and websites.
Have documented the ability or potential to contribute to academic scholarship, evidenced by a history of scientific publications, grant submissions, and conference presentations.
Ability to help mentor graduate/undergraduate students and write and submit research papers in high-impact conferences and journals.
Have good hands-on experience in data collection and analysis of optical sensors.
Ability to communicate with our Industrial Partner and perform data collection on their patented sensor
Essential Functions and percent of time:
70% of the time will be spent modeling an optical sensor for detecting Volatile Organic compounds with COMSOL software. This includes leading a research project in close collaboration with the PI and his industrial partner.
30% of the time will be spent writing and submitting proposals as necessary and securing external funding. The Postdoctoral Researcher shall also be responsible for soliciting and being awarded the grant for the project's needs beyond 2023.
