Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Job description

Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy

This new full time post is available from October 2023 on a fixed term basis until March 2025. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

The Faculty of Environment, Sciences, and Economy wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the project Transforming Housing and Homes for Future Generations. This AHRC funded post is available from Oct 2023 – March 2025. The successful applicant will undertake qualitative social science research activities working closely with community groups in the UK to bring their perspectives into the design processes and the development of project outcomes relating to future design for beyond net zero retrofit.

The post will include:

Organising and undertaking in-depth qualitative interviews, collaborative workshops, and larger community events face-to-face across our case locations of Bristol and Swansea.

Collaborating with project partners and the wider project team including architecture and engineering researchers to advance co-design processes

Undertaking analysis and collaborating to create outcomes from the project including journal articles, presentations, and creative outputs

Working to develop and apply innovative methods and forms of documenting research processes and outcomes, such as using visuals and film.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in environmental or health geographies or cognate disciplines and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to: undertake qualitative research and analysis, including interviews and collaborative workshops; establish and develop good connections with community groups and leaders and wider stakeholders; develop written and verbal outputs from the research; undertake research organisation and administrative tasks as required. Experience in creative methods and techniques such as film and visual methods is desirable.
