Postdoctoral Fellow

We are seeking a short fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Fellow with experience in proteomics, glycomics, and chromatography to work at Macquarie University as part of the Industrial Transformation training Centre in Facilitated Advancement of Australia's Bioactives (FAAB).
Salary Package: From $81,581 – $109,852 (Level A) p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading Appointment Type: Fixed term Full-Time for 6 months (parental leave replacement) Location: Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus (North Ryde)
THE ROLE
This position supports the research and training activities of FAAB which is led by Professor Alison Rodger, Associate Professor Alf Garcia-Bennett and Professor Anwar Sunna. The Centre is composed of a multidisciplinary team from the Australian bioactives industry with academia partners from Macquarie University, Deakin University, the University of South Australia and Western Sydney University as well as overseas collaborators.
FAAB characterises a wide range of products containing bioactive molecules to determine modes of action for bioactive products made from foods, food-waste and cell-based biotechnologies with potential lifestyle and nutritional benefits. The successful appointee will be a technique expert and will have the exciting opportunity to work across a number of the centre research areas collaborating with academic staff, industry partners and higher degree by research students. The aim of FAAB is to enable evidence-informed decision- making, and regulatory framework development for the complexities of bioactive products.
You will support FAAB activities through technical training and supervision in their area of expertise. They will actively contribute to the ITTC's program through research, preparation of project reports and publications, and participate in training programmes designed for researchers at the academic/industry interface. The role will have a nominated primary research supervisor who has relevant expertise from the University as well as a nominated Mentor from within a relevant Industrial Partner who will provide guidance and business context for transformation of research into products.
About You
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant area and expertise in proteomics, glycomics, and chromatography with considerable hands-on experience in liquid chromatography as well as mass spectrometry-based proteomics and glycomics of a range of biological samples.
You will be a creative innovative scientist keen to apply your technical expertise to solving a diverse range of complex molecular problems. You will enjoy working with scientists from different disciplines and sectors and you will be an effective communicator. You will work with senior members of FAAB to develop skills for your future career as a scientific leader. You will show evidence of a strong research track record evidenced by first-authored publications in high quality conference and journal publications and evidence of working both as an independent researcher and in a team-based environment. You will have excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to and engage with other staff, students and external collaborators. You will be able to design experiments independently and collaborate with researchers of different disciplinary backgrounds. Robust knowledge of data handling, visualisation and interpretation are required as are the ability to maintain and perform minor repairs and benchmarking of instrumentation. Experience in student training, the ability to excel in larger multi-disciplinary teams and experience with working with industry are beneficial attributes.

Selection Criteria
Proteomics and Glycomics: Considerable hands-on experience in liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry-based proteomics and glycomics of a range of biological samples. Previous experience working with peptides would be advantageous.
Strong problem-solving skills to resolve a diverse range of complex molecular problems.
Strong research track record evidenced by first-authored publications in high quality conference and journal publications and evidence of working both as an independent researcher and in a team-based environment.
Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to and engage with other staff, students, and external collaborators.
