The Pennathur group at the University of Michigan (Division of Nephrology) has an opening for a postdoctoral or Research Associate studying role of nutrient and lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function in models of diabetic kidney disease using metabolomics. We are funded by the NIH to develop comprehensive program in kidney disease and metabolomics. Recent relevant publications from the laboratory include: JCI Insight. 2019 Nov 1;4(21):e130317; J Biol Chem. 2023 Mar;299(3):102960; Am J Physiol Renal Physiol 2023 Nov 2; J Biol Chem 2023 Nov 26:105502.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in basic mechanisms of kidney and/or metabolic diseases (diabetes and/or obesity) and documented expertise in mouse models, cell cultures and various molecular, histological and biochemical techniques including applications of CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing techniques. The position involves collaborations with researchers in the group having basic, translational as well as clinical backgrounds. Documented expertise with diabetes or kidney related work, mitochondrial biology and model systems is necessary (graduate school or postdoctoral research with 2 or more first author publications in the field). Training related to the use of metabolomic analysis and bioinformatics will be provided. Salary will be as per NIH postdoctoral guidelines and is negotiable for more senior research scientist candidates. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
