College/Department Information

Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine (DNRM) at the Medical College of Georgia! The mission of the department is to promote multidisciplinary research and teaching excellence in both biomedical and clinical sciences. The department was founded in 1993 as the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. We seek to attract outstanding faculty and bright students by creating a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative environment to foster success and creativity. Our faculty's research focuses on a variety of fundamental areas, ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, learning and memory, neuroprotection, development, inflammation, and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. Our department is also the home to the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, which is supported by the Georgia Research Alliance.

Job Summary

A position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; contribute to publication in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures and manage the nabs mouse colony.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Participate In Project Planning and Development:Participate in project planning and development of research projects. Develop and refine protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform a variety of experimental studies Including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and pharmacology experiments. Experiments may include but not be limited to animal behavioral testing, genotyping, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, collection of tissues, multiomic profiling. Analyze results of experiments and procedures and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Maintain and update spreadsheets documenting results.

Manuscripts and Research Proposals:Write manuscripts and develop research proposals in line with the laboratory's research directions.

Supervise and Coordinate Activities:Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.

Other:Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
