Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Inclusive AI

About the Role We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a project funded by the Australian Research Council at the Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision Making and Society (ADM+S).

In this role, you will work with Professor Anthony McCosker on the Critical Capabilities for Inclusive AI project which aims to develop and test approaches to ensure inclusive AI within the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.

You will collaborate with ADM+S Centre members, research partners, consumers, and communities to understand essential skills and resources for using AI tools, including Generative AI. Through research and educational materials, the project will enhance AI capabilities and promote responsible AI governance with a focus on domains such as news and media, healthcare, social services, and humanitarian work.

Your responsibilities will include leading research activities, collaborating to develop projects for generative AI deployment, and engaging with industry and members of the public. Qualitative research experience and an interest in technology and society, digital literacy, AI skills, and inclusive AI practices are essential.

About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

Demonstrated ability to use qualitative social science methods and analysis techniques, including participatory or co-design methods.

A record of high-quality research publications in peer-reviewed journals or book collections in digital media, data studies and technology and society related subjects, commensurate with opportunity.

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to relate well to a variety of people from data science, humanities and social science backgrounds, and understand their data needs.

Demonstrated ability to write both academic and non-academic documents in a clear, structured manner.

Demonstrated ability to lead research projects, manage resources effectively, and deliver outcomes within deadlines.

Qualifications A PhD in a social science field such as digital media studies, media and communications, linguistics, sociology or related fields.
