Electrophysiologist (postdoc or scientist)

A position is available for an expert electrophysiologist with a broad range of classical electrophysiology (e.g. patch-clamping, slice physiology, etc.) and/or in-vivo electrophysiology expertise.

The position will support some research projects under a collaboration between the Yakoub and Sulzer labs at Harvard Med School-Brigham Hospital and Columbia University. The two labs are collaborating to test some potentially transformative ideas related to brain disease mechanisms/therapies and developing cutting-edge technologies for neuroscience. Example projects include:

1. Investigating the “virus/immune hypotheses” of neurodegenerative or neurodevelopmental diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and autism.

2. Developing novel gene therapies to target neuronal cell biology processes such as autophagy or neural circuits that go awry in brain disease.

3. Developing powerful technologies for neural circuitry tracing or modulation in the brain that can be a strong rival to existing neuroscience technologies such as optogenetics, or deep brain stimulation.

The postdoc will receive the mentorship and career development support from both advisors. The postdoc may be based mainly in Boston, with further training as needed at the Sulzer lab in New York. Skills in electrophysiology and neuroscience are a must, as well as productivity, independence and motivation.

To inquire about the position, please send your CV to ayakoub@bwh.harvard.edu and ds43@cumc.columbia.edu.
