The successful candidate will join the young, vibrant, and interdisciplinary FINATRAX Research Group, which builds bridges between business research and information systems engineering. The group conducts research on the application and the impact of digital technologies like DLT/Blockchain, Digital Identities, Machine Learning/AI, and IoT/5G on organisations from both the private and public sectors. The group consists of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds, including business, technology, law, and psychology. Your role

The candidate will be funded through an industry partnership with Luxembourg's Ministry for Digitalisation, as well as other industry partnerships or public research projects. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, exploring the design, implementation and instantiation of Luxembourg's digital identity wallet and the European digital identity wallets (EUDIW) and their implications on privacy and security, as well as other technical, organizational, and regulatory aspects. The candidate would perform, among others, the following tasks

Carry out research in the field of digital identity wallets, such as

Critical evaluations of security and privacy implications of technical design choices for digital identity wallets (e.g., the involvement of QWACs), specifically in the context of the eIDAS 2.0 regulation and the current status of the architecture reference framework (ARF)

Investigating emerging standards (e.g., W3C Verifiable Credentials (VC), OpenID4VCI/ OpenID4VP), current solutions (eIDs, biometric passports, X.509 certificates, SD-JWTs) and deployments (e.g., the availability of secure hardware and cryptographic co-processors in (mainly) mobile phones)

Developing and implementing privacy enhancements for new or existing standards based on cryptographic constructions such as zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs)

Provide guidance to PhD students

Disseminate results through scientific publications

Prepare research proposals to attract industry partnerships as well as national and European grant projects 

Manage research projects and prepare project deliverables 

Provide guidance to Master students and PhD students who submit work to conferences or journals

Your profile

PhD degree in Information Systems Engineering, Management Information Systems, Technology & Law, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Experience with interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary research projects and related research methods (e.g., design science research)

Experience in publishing high-quality research, as demonstrated by research under review or published in 1stquartile conferences and journals (according to Scopus)

Experience in research supervision

A collaborative team player with a desire to make a personal impact within our interdisciplinary research group 

The commitment to participate in the design, implementation, and theoretical elaboration of high-quality solutions that solve significant problems

Self-initiative, creativity, curiosity, flexibility and enthusiasm to work

Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English
