Job Description
Summary
We are seeking self-motivated individual to work in a laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan NRI focused on the underlying genetics, molecular mechanisms and developing therapeutic strategies of genetic neurological disorders. Candidate must have in-depth knowledge and expertise in working with iPSC-derived neurons, mouse work (routine behavioral assays for neurological disorders, stereotactic surgical procedures and mouse colony breeding and maintenance), molecular techniques like qRT-PCR, Western Blotting, immunocytochemistry etc. Candidate will assist in several projects including Alzheimer\'s Disease, Parkinson\'s Disease, and MeCP2 projects. The candidate will work in a collaborative lab environment with post-doctoral researchers, staff scientists and Investigators within the team and from other labs in the NRI to carry out research projects.
Job Duties
Designs and implements experiments to test hypotheses and collect, analyze and scientific data.
Presents scientific data and participate in scientific discussions at internal and external meetings and conferences.
Performs experiments in human iPSCs and iPSC-derived neurons that include but are not limited to iPSC culture, maintenance, infection with virus, neuron differentiation.
Performs experiments in human neural progenitor cells (NPCs) that include NPC culture, maintenance and differentiation.
Carries out molecular and biochemical assays on cells of human and mouse-origin, mouse and postmortem human brain tissues.
Designs and performs CRISPR/Cas9 editing experiments, designs and tests anti-sense oligonucleotides, and other small molecules in cell cultures of HEK293T, iPSC-derived neurons.
Attends weekly lab meetings/journal club meetings.
Assists in writing progress reports for the PI and works on manuscripts to submit for publication
Minimum Qualifications
MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
No experience required.
